How to Clean Your Makeup Brushes

This is an important topic that people do not talk about much and nobody warns us about the fact that cleaning your brushes is important to your skin’s health.

We use makeup brushes every day, sometimes several times a day if we fix our makeup.

But have you ever wondered how many bacteria are on your brush? How bad are dirty brushes for your skin health? Maybe they are the reason your pimples appeared?

We transfer the bacteria from the skin on the brushes, then from the brushes to our skin and so it repeats again and again.

We take care to choose the highest-quality product, that will last longer and won’t harm our skin, but we don’t pay enough attention to the care of makeup brushes.

We should remember to clean our brushes as often as we remember to wash our face.

Now that we’ve finally come to the conclusion that we need to take more care of brushes, we will find a way how to clean your makeup brushes in a DIY way.

Let’s first determine how often should you clean your makeup brushes.

Some experts say that it’s enough to clean them once a month.

But, can’t we do it more times a month for our skin? Like, at least once a week? Depends on how often you use them.

Once you turn this into a habit, you won’t see it as a task, but as a routine.

Clean your makeup brushes with water and gentle soap

The easiest way of cleaning your makeup brushes is by using only water and gentle soap.

Don’t forget to wash your hands before washing your makeup brushes.

Then wet all of your makeup brushes.

Put a little bit of soap in a bowl and add water.

Then gently massage brushes one by one.

You can do in the bowl or in the palm of your hand.

Don’t do it too rough because you might destroy bristles.

Rinse the brushes and squeeze the moisture out with a clean towel.

Let the brushes dry with the bristles turned upside down.

Otherwise, the moisture will stay in the bristles.

Also, don’t let your brushes dry on a towel, the bristles will become mildewed.

Vinegar is definitely an antibacterial brush cleaner.

Vinegar is a great choice for cleaning your brushes because it will kill all bacteria from bristles, remove dead skin cells and remove the makeup from your brushes.

Put a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of hot water.

Make circular movements with your brush.

Then rinse the brush in cold water and leave it to dry.

The procedure is the same as in the first way, so we do not have to explain it in detail.

Don’t use hot water because heat can damage the bristles.

Remove oil-based makeup from your brushes

For this method, you will need a paper towel and some olive oil.

Put some oil on the paper towel and make gentle movements with your brush on the paper.

You will see that dirt disappeared.

Then rinse the brush with water.

Try not to wet the part where bristles meet the handle because the glue could wear off.

After this part, wash your brushes with water and soap or shampoo.

Try to clean your brushes with baking soda

You can use baking soda for cleaning your brushes too. It is another cheap and quick alternative.

Put brushes in a container and add water until the brushes are immersed.

Put a teaspoon in the container and let them soak for 30 minutes.

Then remove them from the container, rinse them with water and let them dry.
